Austria — SchUG §§ 14a, 70a (IKT-gestützter Unterricht, elektronische Kommunikation)
The two digital provisions of Austria's school instruction act (both inserted January 2021): the statutory definition and basis for ICT-supported teaching, and the electronic-communication regime including its data-processing basis.
Statute text is German (the authentic language); this README is curation.
Applicability to EdTech
- § 14a defines our category: digitale Endgeräte (Abs. 1) and IKT-gestützter Unterricht — teaching using digital devices and digital learning and working platforms (Abs. 2). The minister may set technical requirements for devices and platforms by Verordnung (Abs. 3) — the hook under which platform requirements for Austrian classrooms can be imposed; watch for Verordnungen issued on it (the Digitale-Endgeräte-Verordnungen under the SchDigiG device rollout sit alongside).
- § 70a is the data basis for school communication: Abs. 4 expressly permits school administration, school heads and teachers to process private contact data of pupils and guardians for communication, teaching (including individual learning support), assessment and grading — the provision an Austrian school points to when using a platform's messaging/assessment features. Conferences may be held and resolved electronically (Abs. 1–3).
