Austria — Bildungsdokumentationsgesetz 2020
Austria's education-documentation act — the dedicated statute governing student data: who is controller, which Evidenzen (registers) schools keep, and the central Datenverbund der Schulen. This is the Austrian sibling of FERPA/Poland's SIO/Bulgaria's НЕИСПУО, but with unusually explicit statutory data catalogues (the Anlagen).
Statute text is German (the authentic language); this README is curation.
Applicability to EdTech
- Roles are fixed by statute (§ 4): the Schulleiter/in is datenschutzrechtlich Verantwortliche/r for pupils' data at the school, and the responsibility split with the school authority and Schulerhalter over IT systems is spelled out — an Austrian school negotiating a platform contract works inside this allocation, not around it.
- The student registers (§ 5): schools keep automationsunterstützte Evidenzen of pupils with the data items enumerated by § 5 Abs. 1 and the Anlagen — the definitive catalogue of what pupil data lawfully exists at an Austrian school.
- Datenverbund der Schulen (§ 6): the nationwide school data network holding Personenstammdaten and Bildungsdaten, with statutory retention periods (Abs. 2: name/date-of-birth/e-mail/bPK seven school years after the last attendance, exam data three years, the rest one school year) and a post-attendance deletion right on request.
- Regelungszweck (§ 1): documentation for planning, statistics and research — processing beyond these purposes needs another basis.

Scope note: the Anlagen (per-register data catalogues) and the Gesamtevidenz/Bildungsstatistik provisions (§§ 7 ff.) are not extracted; add Anlage 1/3 if a field-level mapping question arises.
